Description:This report is the result of collaboration with numerous teachers, science writers and scientists. Approximately 100 teachers throughout the southern Lake Michigan region participated in workshops and provided guidance during the development process. This innovative new text, directed toward high school teachers, offers a classroom-ready resource to teach ways to write about science. The first chapter focuses on science writing techniques. Following chapters include an introduction to environmental topics of water quality, exotic species, fisheries, and coastal economic development. Science-related stories published by Sea Grant program and award-winning stories are incorporated. Designed for easy classroom use, the material may be taught as a complete unit or as a supplement to standard curriculum. Sea Grant's online magazine, "The HELM Online", provides a continually updated, indexed source of science stories.
