Description:The giant kelp, "Macrocystis integrifolia" has the potential to become a major contributor to future renewable energy resources as well as to food production for the increasing world population. In order to test the suitability of a site for the rearing of giant kelp, ten sporophytes were transplanted from a wild patch at Whiting Harbor, Sitka, Alaska, to a site located behind the Sheldon Jackson College (SJC) salmon hatchery in Sitka.
