Description:Part I of this report presents data on the reproductive activity of the eastern oyster, "Crassostrea virginica", obtained from deployment of spatfall collectors at stations throughout Virginia in western Chesapeake Bay tributaries and on the Eastern Shore. The data are used in various applications including assessment of long-term spatfall trends, indication of potential oyster recruitment into particular estuaries, and seasonal and annual fluctuations in spatfall throughout the lower Bay. In Part II, the authors discuss the status of the existing oyster resource using data from dredge samples collected from public oyster bars. The survey provides information about spatfall and recruitment, mortality, and annual changes in abundance of seed and market-size oysters.
