  • Description:
This report seeks to improve understanding of the potential applications of coastal ocean observing systems in coastal zone management, with a focus on the Southeast region. The study builds on efforts to identify information needs of coastal managers by the Coastal States Organization (CSO) and the Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA). The goal of this report is to guide coastal resource managers toward relevant applications of coastal ocean observing systems; and in turn, guide the IOOS community toward improved interactions with the coastal management community. The report includes an overview of findings from two recent CSO surveys; an assessment of IOOS activities; and highlights existing uses of IOOS information by coastal managers through two case studies.
