Description:From microscopic bacteria and phytoplankton to striped bass and harbor seals, Long Island Sound is alive. The Sound is a major spawning ground for many species of finfish and shellfish and an essential food and rest stop for many species of migratory birds. Although the abundance of organisms has decreased in recent years, as the coastline became more densely populated with humans, the Sound still supports a multitude of creatures. This publication, illustrated with many line drawings, shows how plants and animals of the Sound interact with each other, with their environment, and with people in complex and interesting ways.
