Description:Recently, there has been a growing interest in the restoration of Hawaiian fishponds, especially those along the southern coast of the island of Molokai. This project had two goals: (1) survey of potential sites for restoration, and (2) study of the circulation characteristics of a candidate fishpond to identify likely sources of poor circulation. Two numerical models were investigated, one of a fish pond with a single sluice gate and one of a pond with two sluice gates. Ponds with two sluice gates have significantly improved circulation.
