Description:There are two reasons to consider tidal inlets in a beach management program: (1) ebb-tidal deltas are prime borrow areas for beach nourishment projects and (2) inlet throat migration, wave refraction across ebb-tidal deltas, and sediment trapping by tidal inlet systems affects sedimentation and navigation along adjacent shore lines. This report sets forth a preliminary inlet classification model for the west-central coast of Florida and discusses implications for shoreline management. It also includes a brief discussion of historical changes in inlets along that coast of Florida and an extensive data base on inlet parameters.
