Description:Rapid coastal population growth and urbanization in Florida requires current and extensive information for a variety of public and private interests; those charged with providing such information face a widening gap between their ability to provide it and public awareness. The feasibility of a statewide remote-access information service was explored in a pilot study using two types of computer-based systems. The details of the study are described here. Recommendations include the utilization of existing mechanisms, a mandatory reporting system for grant and contract-supported projects, and a Coastal Information Service based on a microcomputer system.
