Description:"The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposes to issue a scientific research permit to the NMFS Pacific Islands Region (PIR), 1601 Kapiolani Boulevard, Honolulu, HI 96814 under the Endangered Species Act of 1973 (ESA; 16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.), and the regulations governing the taking, importing, and exporting of endangered and threatened species (50 CFR Parts 222-226). The objective of the study is to gather scientific data from incidentally caught sea turtles to help meet the goals of sea turtle recovery and protection outlined in sea turtle recovery plans. The scientific data collected from sea turtles that are incidentally caught in commercial fisheries in the Pacific Ocean will be used to minimize and mitigate future incidental take of sea turtles"--Page [1].
