Description:This paper describes the impact of litigation on the National Weather Service. The involvement of agency personnel in litigation-related activities is detailed and selected lawsuits are reviewed. It is hypothesized that emerging new technologies such as Doppler weather radar and automated surface observing systems will create a greater presumption of negligence when weather-related accidents occur.
