Description:Accurate prediction of heavy snow hand location continues to be one of the greatest challenges faced by the operational forecaster. There are numerous published guidelines used to aid in positioning these bands in mature storm situations. But there is much to consider before applying these "rules", and many less mature systems to deal with that are also capable of producing heavy snowfall. This paper concentrates mainly on the latter type of system. It attempts to organize a few ideas and comment on one of the more Important positioning guidelines that could use some clarification.
