Description:In an effort to focus specific attention on this aera of ocean technology and collectively provide a review of the status of the techniques, the "Acoustic Current Profiling Symposium" was convened in Washington, D.C., on November 2 and 3, 1983, under the joint auspices of NOAA and the Current Measurement Technology Committee of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society. The meeting objectives were to review the development of and community experience with remote acoustic current profiling methods, to identify critical areas of the technology that require further development, and to provide guidance and direction for continued short and long-term development and application.
