Description:Forecast benefits, resultant societal benefits, and derived societal economic benefits were explored in the areas of severe weather nowcasting and short-range forecasting, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) skill enhancements, hurricane and tropical storms, and other applications areas, including aviation. Recent research included literature on Observing System Experiments (OSEs) and Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs), as well as existing analyses. More focused OSEs/OSSEs for severe storms and for a potential international GEO ring of sounders were developed for this study to examine NWP skill improvements.
