Description:Ionospheric D-region partial reflection measurements with the NOAA digital HF radar at Boot Lake (near Brighton, Colo.) on 9 January 1981 are presented. Deep fading in the echo amplitude-versus-time records indicate phase interference from multiple echoes, which suggests the possibility of oblique echoes. The increase in echo amplitude with scattering height was much less here than it was during similar measurements in July 1980 in Tromsd, Norway. Power spectra for several scattering heights are also presented. All of the measurements are on a digital magnetic tape, and can be used for further offline processing, including the calculation of D-region electron density profiles by the differential absorption or differential phase method. Low signalto-noise ratio, inability to transmit circular polarization, and inability to measure angle of arrival hindered the identification of the source of the ionospheric irregularities.
