Description:Computer programs3 previously documented> for processing digitally quantified Miami WSR-57 radar data3 performed only over the quadrant northwest of Miami. An enlargement of the area of processing was engineered. It uses partial computer word methods3 yields a seven-fold enlargement of the processed area of rainfall data and permits calculations over a square that is 180 n.rri. (334 km) on a side9 centered on Miamiy with resolution to squares 1 n.mi. on a side. Two new computer programs are described. One is an echo isolation and tracking program called PEAKS3 which fits a bivariate normal distribution to each echo^ and also to each relative maximum in rain rate within each echofs perimeter. This program is based upon different principles than its predecessor (TRACK) and appears to make fewer errors in judgment. After a whole day fs data has been processed with the tracking program3 all tracked echo information is transferred to the second computer program named STATS. It formulates hourly and whole day summaries of South Florida echo areas and rain volumes for all combinations of location (land/sea/both) and status (unmerged/merged/all). Also^ a whole day of tracked echo data is accumulated and results are tabulated for echo areas versus rain volumes within quartiles of growth tendency. Regression equations for these combinations are created and histograms can be displayed. Examples depict results from the two programs using the enlarged array. Appendices provide the complete FORTRAN code for the entire ensemble of NHEML software for processing digitally recorded WSR-57 data.
