Description:Tropospheric wind-field measurements obtained using a Doppler lidar are compared against rawinsonde observations and the measurements of a 915-MHz UHF wind Profiler. Height-averaged values of lidar-minus-rawinsonde mean (median) difference, and root-mean-square difference between lidar and rawinsonde horizontal_Y*-nd“field measurements are respectively -1.79 (-1.46), 3.31 m s for wind speed and -0.09° (-0.54°), 12.13° for wind direction. These estimates are based on 429 data pairs. Height-averaged values of Profiler-minuslidar mean (median) difference, and root-mean-square difference between lidar and 915 MHz UHF wind Profiler radial (75° elevation, east and north azimuths) component measurements are respectively 0.15 (0.20), 0.95 m s for east and 0.25 (0.25), 0.78 m s for north. These estimates are based on 382 east radial (along-beam) and 389 north radial (along-beam) data pairs, the duration of each measurement being approximately 4 minutes.
