Description:Comparisons are made of data obtained with the Boundary Layer Instrument System (BLIS), a tethered sonde, during the GARP Atlantic Tropical Experiment (GATE) in 1974. Based on data from 20 sondes, spectra of. wind variables and effects of balloon and ship motion of the wind data are discussed, several profiles are compared, and estimates of typical sensor biases and rms errors are presented.
