Description:Tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings are issued by local offices of the National Weather Service. Routine verification of these warnings is accomplished at the National Severe Storms Forecast Center. This report highlights verification procedures and summarizes national, regional and local verification results for the year 1990. Stations in the Southern and Central regions have issued most of the warnings and experienced most of the severe local storm events. A record number of severe local storm events were confirmed in 1990. While the POD continued improving and the CSI remained steady, the FAR did not improve for the first time since verification began.
