Description:The possible types of Doppler acoustic current profilers are outlined, and the distinction between the “classic†Janus/single pulse system and “radical†systems is made. The Chesapeake Bay Experiment designed to evaluate an AMETEK profiler is described. A radical acoustic profiler could be produced from data recorded during the experiment. This OAD Janus/coherent profiler is compared to the AMETEK and found to produce equally good measurements in only 1/30 the time.
