Description:Detailed field experiments were conducted during the summers of 1976 and 1977 to determine the ocean kinematics and dynamics which dominate bedload sediment transport in a typical shoreface environment off Tiana Beach, Long Island, New York. The experiments involved high-resolution current meters and wave staffs mounted on tripods in the surf zone, ocean boat stations distributed across 3.5 kilcmeter-wide shore-normal transect, sediment samples obtained from grab samplers, and data kindly provided by Project COBOLT of Brookhaven National Laboratories and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. As the experiments were conducted during the summer season, the data are limited to moderate meteorological and oceanographic conditions.
