Description:The Department of Commerce, through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Department of the Interior (DOI) through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the State of North Carolina through the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) (Trustees) have prepared this Final Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment (Final RP/EA) to identify, evaluate, and select proposed alternatives to restore injured natural resources, including their supporting ecosystems, and the services they provide in order to compensate the public for the injury to natural resources due to releases of hazardous substances at and from the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. Site in Navassa, North Carolina. This Final RP/EA was prepared jointly by the Trustees in accordance with Section 111(i) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and its implementing regulations (43 C.F.R. § 11.93). The Trustees anticipate developing additional RP/EAs, thus this RP/EA is “Phase I” of what is intended to be a multi-phase process to restore natural resources and their services injured as a result of exposure to hazardous substances released at and from the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp.-Navassa Site.
