Description:The Magnuson Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MFCMA) contains seven "national standards" (see appendix B of Fishery Management Plan for the Commercial King and Tanner Crab Fisheries in the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands (crab FMP)) with which all fishery management plans (FMP) and implementing regulations must be consistent. The first national standard states "conservation and management measures shall prevent overfishing while achieving, on a continuing basis, the optimum yield from each fishery for the United States fishing industry."
