Tuna research In the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has been conducted at the Southwest Fisheries Center's (SWFC) two laboratories In Honolulu, Hawaii and La Jolla, California since 1970, with one exception. Research on Atlantic billfishes and bluefin tuna Is carried out at the NMFS Southeast Fisheries Center In Miami, Florida.
