Description:Research on Atlantic albacore and tropical tunas in support of the United States commitment to the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) is conducted at the La Jolla Laboratory of the Southwest Fisheries Center. The Center also administers a tuna port sampling program in Puerto Rico, maintains a comprehensive Atlantic tunas data base, facilitates the exchange of data between U.S. foreign researchers and coordinates general scientific matters involving ICCAT-related research conducted by U.S. scientists.
