Description:Sandy Hook Laboratory, Northeast Fisheries Center, has been examining the impact of ocean waste disposal on the ecosystem of the New York Bight apex since 1968 (Pearce et al., 1976a; 1977). The New Jersey Coastal Study, initiated in 1972, extended our area of interest south to Cape May, New Jersey (Radosh, unpublished data)1. In 1974, the Alternate Dumpsite Study (DUPI) (Pearce et al., 1976b) and Baltimore Canyon Trough Investigation (Pearce, unpublished data)1 yielded information on areas farther offshore.
