Description:The responsibility for providing the United States with warnings of river conditions was assigned to the National Weather Service in 1890. This requirement has led to the development of a systems approach to hydrologic data collection, runoff computation, and forecast production which is being developed and applied in the service area of the California-Nevada River Forecast Center. This system is focused on producing information on the future distribution of water in time and space which affects the safety, welfare, and economic well being of the nation and its inhabitants.
