Acknowledgements -- The Massachusetts coast -- The use of metric maps -- References -- Appendixes.

Accurate measurements of shoreline change have become a prerequisite for coastal planning and management... The Metric Mapping technique is probably the most cost-effective method of generating shoreline change maps that meet or exceed national map accuracy standards... The the Massachusetts shoreline analysis, both recent and historic shoreline maps, as well as aerial photographs were utilized to generate 231 shoreline change maps... This report describes the metric mapping methodology, data interpretation, and, in general terms, the process of map compilation. The report also discusses the difference between various data sources (e.g., maps, charts, and air photos), including their utility and accuracy."--p.1-2.
