Description:"An isentropic analysis package has been developed at the National Meteorological Center (NMC), in conjunction with the development of a Movable Fine-Mesh Model for a limited area. The MFM model is designed to predict the movement and development of hurricanes and tropical storms, as well as those of extratropical systems that are confined in a limited area. Within the isentropic analysis package, special attention is devoted to the analysis of moisture in order to achieve the following: a) better vertical resolution of the moisture field by incorporating radiosonde data at significant levels as well as those at standard levels; b) a much more detailed analysis of the moisture field in the planetary boundary layer; c) the use of cloud and weather observations at surface stations to infer moisture data in the lower troposphere in areas where radiosonde data are unavailable. This paper documents the scheme of moisture analysis in the isentropic analysis package"--Introduction.
