Description:

November 2007 recommendations from the Marine Protected Areas Center to the Department of Commerce Under Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere, and the Department of the Interior Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks. Recommendations addressed: 1) Process for determining which existing MPA sites will constitute the initial National System of MPAs; 2) Developing plans for effective MPA management; 3) Incentives for participation in the National System of MPAs; and 4) Regional approaches to planning and coordination of MPAs. These recommendations were developed by the MPA FAC in response to the committee's charge by DOC and DOI delivered at the April 2006 MPA FAC meeting.
