Description:"In this report we provide the results of a third examination of the scarring data and several new analyses aimed at assessing trends in entanglement rates from 1980-2002. We will evaluate if with these analyses, it may be possible to monitor the effectiveness of future gear modifications and other changes in fishing practice. However, it must be noted that entanglement rates may be influenced by many different factors. When the value of these analyses as monitoring tools are evaluated, there will be discussion in light of their limitations. One important aspect of the entanglement issue that cannot be discerned from this, or any other study, is the geographic location where entanglement interaction occurred"--Intro.
