Description:"This is the second in a series of updates on the storage stability trials carried out by the Quality Assurance Project of the Fish Oil Biomedical Test Materials Program (BTMP). The Fish Oil BTMP was established in 1986 by a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the National Institutes of Health/Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Administration (NIH/ADAMHA). The primary mission of this Program is to provide standard test materials to answer research questions regarding the mode of action of omega-3 (n-3) fatty acids in ameliorating heart disease, inflammatory diseases, and cancer, as well as their role in brain development. The role of the Charleston Laboratory of NMFS is to produce extensively analyzed and quality assured fish oil, n-3 ethyl ester concentrate of fish oils, and purified ethyl esters of eicosapentaenoic acid (EP A) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These test materials are available to researchers approved by the Fish Oils Test Materials Advisory Committee (FOTMAC) of the NIH/ADAMHA"--Introduction, paragraph 1.
