Description:"BAE Systems Spectral Solutions has been provided IKONOS satellite imagery from NOAA for the near shore waters of the U.S. Pacific Territories. The images are being used to create maps of the region's marine resources including coral reefs and other important habitats for fisheries, tourism and other aspects of the coastal economy. Accurate habitat maps are necessary for resource managers to make informed decisions about the protection and use of these areas. Analytical Laboratories of Hawaii (ALH) has been subcontracted to provide mapping and other services to meet the goals of this project ... An integral part of this work includes scientifically sound statistical accuracy estimates of the coral reef habitat maps. These analyses are presented and conclusions are drawn that can be integrated into long term coral reef mapping objectives. It has been the goal of this work to map the coral reef habitats of all islands of American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The work has been completed and is reported here"--Introduction and background.
