Description:"The objective of the meeting was to identify the major information gaps in omega- 3 fatty acid research and define impediments toward: a) definitive conclusions on the health effects of omega-3 fatty acids in each research area, and; b) clinical recommendations. Experts in several disciplines, including cardiovascular disease, thrombosis, cancer, metabolism, diabetes, inflammation, and neural development, discussed the status of omega-3 fatty acids and their effects in health and disease. Invited speakers and discussants were asked to critique each area and to indicate how the Biomedical Test Materials (BTM) Program can promote research in this area (meeting agenda attached). There were over 39 invited participants at the Fish Oil Test Materials Program Meeting (participant list attached). The meeting was chaired by Drs. Norman Salem (NIH) and Patricia Fair (NOAA)"--Executive summary, paragraph 1.
