Description:"The overall theme for the Joint Science and Technology Commission Meeting (JCM) was Global Challenges -- United States (US)-New Zealand (NZ) relationships. Six one-day scientific workshops were held across New Zealand: (1) Bioenergy; (2) Electrical grids and renewable energy; (3) Agriculture and food innovation; (4) Ocean and marine sciences; (5) Climate change in the Pacific; and (6) Antarctic research (25 th January, 2010). The aim of each workshop was to identify potential US-NZ cooperative activities and research programs. The Ocean and marine sciences workshop was hosted by the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research and the themes of this workshop were: I. Identification, Taxonomy and Core Data Sets for Deep-Sea Corals; II. Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (Identification, ecology and conservation science); III. Habitat suitability and Predictive Modeling of Deep-Sea Corals"--Background.
