Description:Conduct a bottom trawl survey along the northern Gulf of America (formerly the Gulf of Mexico) with a 42-ft shrimp trawl to determine abundance and distribution of shrimp and bottomfish species from Brownsville, TX to Key West, FL between 5 and 60 fathoms. The Southeast Area Monitoring and Assessment Program (SEAMAP) Summer Groundfish Survey is the continuation of a 43-year time series and is the backbone of fishery-independent assessment of recruitment strength for many commercially and recreationally important species. This survey also provides length distribution and age data for size classes of several recreationally and commercially important species that are not captured in other surveys.
