Description:A method of obtaining probabilities of precipitation (PoPs) using 500-mb flow typing similar to that done by Augul is presented. The typing method differs in that it results in fewer but more distinct flow types. An independent test is presented which shows that for flow significantly different than climatological the PoP forecasts represent a substantial improvement over climatology,·PoPs for the Western Region and flow type maps are presented for the four seasons.
