Description:On January 11, 2024, NMFS received a petition from the Wild Fish Conservancy to delineate and list one or more ESUs of Gulf of Alaska (GOA) Chinook salmon as threatened or endangered under the ESA (“Listing Petition” or “petition”). NMFS’ Alaska Regional Office concluded that the petition presented substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that the petitioned action may be warranted (89 FR 45815) and initiated a status review. This report contains the results of that review. The goals of this Status Review were to: • Identify appropriate ESUs for GOA Chinook salmon. • Analyze the current status of population viability within these ESUs. • Conduct an analysis of potential threats to GOA Chinook salmon. • Complete an extinction risk evaluation. The purpose of this report is to synthesize information regarding the species’ status and to evaluate its extinction risk.
