Description:Social vulnerability indexes (SVIs) have emerged as a popular way to describe the vulnerability characteristics, health, and wellbeing of fishing communities (Jepson and Colburn, 2013; Colburn et al., 2016; Lavoie et al., 2018; Lewis-Smith and Norman, 2024). Use of social vulnerability to inform West Coast fisheries management is complicated by a number of technical and conceptual challenges. The purpose of this technical memorandum is to document and address these challenges through synthesis and analysis of existing data.
