Description:There were 6,061 and 6,648 confirmed marine mammal strandings documented in the United States in 2022 and 2023, respectively, involving species under NOAA Fisheries’ jurisdiction: pinnipeds (seals, fur seals, and sea lions) and cetaceans (dolphins, porpoises, and whales). These numbers are comparable to the 2006-2021 average (6,331 ± 1,191).
