Description:Precipitation forecasts were issued in categorical form before 1965 and have been issued in probabilistic terms since 1965. In order to examine the longer-term trends in precipitation forecast accuracy, it was necessary to examine categorical forecasts rather than the probability forecasts. Probability forecasts can be transformed to categorical forecasts by considering PoP > 50% as a precipitation forecast and PoP < 50% as a no precipitation forecast.
