Description:A use of PE model predictions of 1000-500 mb. thickness and mean boundary layer potential temperature in forecasting precipitation type has been shown by Wasserman (1), (2). Another study now presented shows the results of an adaptation of Wasserman's technique in the forecasting of precipitation type for the first 12-hour forecast period at Wilkes-Barre / Scranton, PA. These results are for one winter, November 1, 1972 through March 31, 1973.
