Description:Studies by Musil, Sand and Schleusener (1973), Marwitz (1973), and others suggest that the radar echo of severe thunderstorms with hail can have a slight curvature, bulge, or widening aloft, when seen on the range height indicator (RHI) of a WSR-57 radar. This may be due to strong updrafts causing precipitation to be held up in an overhang.
