Description:Does the temperature ever fall to -18°c or below, with no snowcover? For an answer, I examined the records at Portland, Me. Portland is within 500 kmof the Laurentian Mountain cold source and on a seacoast, within 500 km of the warm Gulf Stream. Winter temperatures frequently fall to -18°C or lower and the winter ground is frequently free of snow.
