Description:On the morning of July 11, 1980, a severe weather checklist used by WSFO Portland, Me. (Figure 1), indicated conditions were ripe for severe weather over Northern New Hampshire and the western mountains of Maine. Parameters were approaching severe limits over the rest of New Hampshire and a large part of Maine. It was felt that 1800 GMT soundings for PWM, CAR, and ALB would be extremely helpful in further evaluating the magnitude of our severe weather threat, as the day progressed.
