Description:On February 22, 1986 the midnight shift forecasters faced weather pattern which is not unusual in South Carolina, but has continued to be a difficult situation to forecast. The a forecasters agreed immediately that precipitation was 1ikely, but whether the weather would develop into severe thunderstorms or just general light showers was not so obvious. The problem in this case was solved correctly using automated AFOS meso-analysis programs, and a locally developed severe weather procedure based on the Severe Storms Workshop conducted by Bob Johns this past February at the NWS Training Center.
