Description:The sea long kept its secrets locked deep in its mysterious depths. For centuries, man's interest in the sea was chiefly concerned with obtaining food from its shorelines and sailing his fragile crafts on its waters. Not until the middle of the 19th century did he undertake serious study of that strange world beneath the surface of the sea.
