Description:Subsurface temperature loggers (STRs) have been deployed in coral reefs at varying depths (5 m, 15 m, 25 m) across the U.S. Pacific Islands as part of NOAA’s National Coral Reef Monitoring Program (NCRMP). Specifically, continuous temperature time series have been collected from 2011–2018 across the islands of American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI), the Pacific remote island areas, the main Hawaiian Islands (MHI), and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (NWHI). The primary goal of this study was to compare temperature time series and thermal stress heat metrics across regions, islands, years, and depths. Initially, the success rate of STR deployment was examined since loggers can contain gaps in data due to battery failure or instrument loss from storms, waves, or accidentally being taken by humans on populated islands.
