Description:The purpose of this report is the present a synthesis of knowledge about aquaculture of shellfish in the context of potential cultured-wild interactions and subsequent genetic effects on wild populations. The scope of effects from aquaculture in this report is focused on genetic effects related to cultured-wild interactions and loss of genetic diversity due to escaped/dispersed culture-origin individuals surviving in the wild. This report does not specifically address potential ecological effects such as competition of invasive species with native species, disease, or other factors, although information provided in this report may inform evaluations of ecological risk.
