Description:The aerosol content of the atmosphere near the surface is used to determine when locally uncontaminated air is present at a NOAA Geophysical Monitoring for Climatic Change Observatory near Barrow, Alaska, and to document the long-term trend. Aitken particle measurements by a Gardner counter over a 31-year period are assembled to offer a climatology of prevailing arctic background Aitken nuclei.
