Description:Temperature profiles are made at irregular intervals along shipping routes across the Equator in the Central Tropical Pacific Ocean using expendable bathythermographs (XBT's) from ships-of-oppor tunity. In 1972 Pacific Environmental Group began collecting, processing, and archiving these data. The data are digitized and processed using the computer facilities of Fleet Numerical Oceanography Center (FNOC). In recent years, additional data have been assembled from other sources including FNOC and Scripps Institution of Oceanography and added to the data base.
